Our Family Motorhome to Travel UK and Europe Full-Time

Here are some details about our chosen Family Motorhome to Travel UK and Europe as a family of three full-time. (Read about the process to buy a Motorhome in the UK here)

Our Non-Negotiables

Firstly we had a list of things that were non-negotiable in our MH. These were:

  • Separate toilet and shower
  • Beds that were not the main living couch area as I didn’t want to be making up beds every night
  • Large fridge with a freezer
  • Garage space big enough for e-bikes in the future. (Ours does have an external bike rack if we need to though)

We looked at so many, all different ages, brands, designs and styles. We thought we knew what we wanted and we were struggling to find one, but were also open to other options. We stumbled up this one and Dan and I both walked in and went, ah, this is it.

Specifications

It is a 2020 Chausson Titanium, 720. It has a Ford eco boost 2L 170hp automatic engine. Technically a 6 berth, 5 seated MH.

It is 7.2m in length, 3m in height, 2.3m wide, 3.5t weight. This means it is driven on a UK car licence, which is all we can drive no matter what our Australian licence class is . It also means less toll/ferry fees due to height, weight and length and finally it will be easier to fit in car parks and campsites, etc.

We have a 90L fresh water tank, 90L grey water tank, plus our 11kg Gas bottle (it comes with no bottle just a connection) and our power setup (600amp Lithium, 3000w inverter and 900w solar).

Living Space

It has a large open living and dining space, 2 front swivel driving seats and 3 driving seats converted from the lounge area. (This is the 2nd reason we chose this particular MH). The table is electric drop and raise, that also folds in half and turns and slides in all sorts of directions, making it very customisable for all different situations.

The Kitchen

In the kitchen we have a 130L fridge with internal freezer, oven and 3 burner cooktop (2 gas, one electric).

Where We Sleep

It has a King Size electric drop down bed above the living space. (This is the main reason we chose this MH, the size of the bed was important)

It has double electric bunks at the back, with a full size garage space under which is accessible from both outsides. We put one all the way to the top so Aria has more space, but two kids would fit comfortably too.

The Bathroom

It has a full bathroom with canister toilet, basin and separate shower. With a really clever design where the bathroom door can opening all the way around to meet the shower/kitchen wall, making the back area a completely closed off space for showering etc or Aria at bed time or during the day it can be just the bathroom door to the side opening the length of the motorhome

The Overall Design

This design makes the inside of our Motorhome feel very similar to an Australian Caravan. There are a couple of small things we would change if we were to design / build this from new, but they are not enough to worry us each day. (E.G. we wouldn’t have an oven, it is the same as our Aus caravan oven and just as useless).

The storage is a little slim but we make it work, just. If you were a bigger family you may have to get a little more creative with storage. We have one large floor to ceiling cupboard for clothes, under the bottom bunk (which lifts) is a shallow shelf storage area, we have 2 large cupboards in the bathroom, 3 large and 2 small cupboards in the kitchen and one small floor cupboard for shoes. The luton peak area is a full shelf but quite shallow and we leave that for our Starlink dishy, so only use that for lighter things. We also have some very shallow shelves along the lounge area and above the door for smaller bits and bobs.

The lighting is quite nice in the Motorhome and we have a sufficient amount. We have a lot of large windows and roof hatches to bring in lots of natural light along with 12v lights. We have what we call ‘fancy mood lighting’ which is the strip lighting and is quite soft, then we have other main down lights in all areas and ‘spot lights’ along the kitchen, one lounge, driving area and the bunks. All windows and hatches have flyscreens and block out screens (including the front windscreen and windows) and they do a very good job.

Overall, the layout and design is nice, it is airy, light and spacious. We don’t feel we have to compromise our comfort at all to live in our Motorhome full time.

We walked into so many different MHs, we thought we had an idea of what we wanted, and just stumbled upon this one, we are so glad we did. We had to stretch the budget a little further than we wanted to, but it was so worth it to have something so comfortable to live in as a family.

Thanks for stopping by! I think that covers everything and I hope that helps you understand we looked for in our chosen Family Motorhome to Travel UK and Europe Full-Time. If you missed our blog on the Process we went through to buy our Motorhome in the UK, you can read it here.
